[tides] is a video meditation on human movement, on water, and on our bodies. If surf were people, how would it move? The image was modified using a time-based effect programmed by Matt Costanza, choreography and dance by SUNY Brockport Professor Missy Pfohl Smith, and music by  composer Abby Aresty.

Just as Costanza re-imagines human movement through surf to stunning visual effect, the sound is composed entirely from human breath.  Breath is transformed to evoke the tides of the ocean, creating a contemplative exploration of motion.

[tides] has been shown at festivals including:

Voicing Cage, Gettysburg College, Gettysburg PA (2012)

Cape May New Jersey Film Festival, Cape May, NJ (2007)

Visual Music Marathon, Boston Cyberarts Festival, Boston, MA

Best of IMS Festival Retrospective, Rochester, NY

Image/Movement/Sound Festival, Rochester, NY (2006)
